Interviewed on state television before his departure for the United States, Jordan's King Abdullah II said Friday that Israel must choose between the mentality of "Israel the fortress or living in peace and security with its neighbors."
The King said the United States was the country most capable of influencing Israel. "It is time that the US employ this influence to prove its transparency to the people of the region, and that it is not biased," Abdullah said.
Referring to the United States, he said: "It is our duty to push this great state, and others, to take balanced positions and support the peace process." -Jerusalem Post
A couple of observations;
As usual, Arab leaders place the responsibility of choosing between peace and war on Israel and nobody else. Neighboring governments sworn to Israel's destruction have no obligation according to Ab-dull-ah to make such choices. He knows all too well that the choice has been made.
Ab-dull-ah claims the US must prove its transparency and lack of bias when deciding between Israel and Hamas. Treat them both the same.
The absurdity is that the only parties that have shown any interest in peace are singled out for not trying enough while the Palestinian war faction gets no mention.
What is even more absurd is the hypocrisy of Ab-dull-ah. He treats the Palestinians living in Jordan like garbage, yet takes Israel to task on a daily basis for the same.
Here are some little known facts about Palestinians in Jordan;
Palestinians constitute about one-half of Jordan’s population, and most of these Palestinians are Sunni Muslim. A people without a sovereign state of its own, Jordan's Palestinian community is comprised of those who found themselves under Jordanian rule when part of Palestine was incorporated into Transjordan upon its foundation in 1946 and those who fled to Jordan as a result of Israel’s 1948 War of Independence and the 1967 Six-Day War, in which Israel occupied the Palestinian-populated West Bank and Gaza Strip. Palestinians range from prominent individuals assimilated fully into Jordanian society to impoverished refugees. Linguistically and religiously, Palestinians are not distinct from Jordanians, but differ in ethnicity and historical origin). Although certain Palestinians have "made it" in Jordanian society, (i.e., the queen is Palestinian), as a whole, they suffer economic discrimination in areas such as appointments to positions in the Government and the military, in admittance to public universities, and in the granting of university scholarships. Politically, as well, Palestinians suffer restrictions and social exclusion. Although they constitute about one-half of the total population, the Palestinians contributed 6 of 28 ministers. In the Parliament, 6 of 40 senators and 11 of 80 lower house members were of Palestinian background. No Palestinians held any of the governorships in Jordan. In the electoral system, greater representation is given to regions with non-Palestinian populations. Additionally, approximately 150,000 Palestinian residents – mostly refugees or children of refugees who arrived from Gaza after 1967 – do not qualify for citizenship.
While the Jordanian state is generally not repressive, (a notable exception being 1971’s Black September crackdown), there are documented recent occurrences of arrests. There have been other instances of repression in recent years. On October 6, 2000, police used batons and tear gas to disperse protesters in the Baqaa refugee camp; one person was killed and six others were injured during the protest. In April 2002, a Palestinian child died of head injuries sustained when he was hit by a tear gas canister fired by riot police who were breaking up an anti-Israeli demonstration in the Palestinian Bakaa refugee camp.
This doesn't even discuss the squalid conditions that close to 300,000 Palestinians who are detained in "refugee camps" live in. Jordan keeps the Palestinians on a very short leash, and with good cause. They know all too well what the Palestinians are.
So much for Ab-dull-ah's balanced position. Here is what Jordan thinks of Israel and the Jews.
This from a Jordanian government website;
At the aftermath of the United Nations General Assembly's vote for the partition of Historical Palestine in November 1947, the destiny of the Palestinian people was reversed. The resolution 181 II to create Jewish and Palestinian parts on Historical Palestine resulted in the main sparkle for the on going Arab Israeli war.
(Note the implication that Historical Palestine was to be partitioned to give part to the Jews, as if the Jews have no claim. This of course, is the reason for war. It's never the Arabs.)
Palestinian and Jewish clashes proliferated with Jewish para military forces operating more freely as British forces started their withdrawal and Jewish forces taking control of an area larger than the envisioned by the UN plan. Sabotage, attacks by Jewish military guerrillas continued against Palestinian villages and residents in the cities of the coast. As the British government announced to terminate the Mandate on May 15,1948, Jews proclaimed the State of Israel.
More than 700.000 Palestinian Arabs were evicted or fled" as a result of the operations of the Jewish irregular forces. They killed unarmed Palestinians in villages, intimidated them by the force of arm and conducted some human razing massacres as Tnatoura, Deir Yassin , Qibieh etc…
The same old Arab propaganda.
According to the Jordanian nationality law of the year 1954,
Any person with previous Palestinian nationality except the Jews before the date of May 14, 1948 residing in the Kingdom during the period from December 20, 1949 and February 16, 1954 is a Jordanian citizen.
By the way, as of today, Jews cannot be Jordanian citizens.
Where is your balance Ab-dull-ah?
Everyone who is not Arab is guilty. Every Arab is a victim. Unless, of course, you are a Jordanian persecuting a Palestinian. Then you are a king.
