Iran to Help Plan UN Anti Racism Conference
The UN continues to prove that it is nothing short of being the laughing stock of world politics. How anyone can take them seriously is beyond belief. Here is the latest jewel.
"Iran on anti-racism committee" by Yaakov Lappin for Ynet:
Despite its numerous calls for Israel's destruction, and repeated denials of the Holocaust, Iran has been selected by the United Nations for a leading position in a committee that will plan the 2009 UN World Conference against Racism.A match made in heaven and blessed by the UN; Libya and Iran to plan the UN's Anti Racism Conference.
The planning committee, which will meet for the first time in Geneva on August 27, will be made up of an inner circle of 20 UN member-states, to be headed by Libya.
The decision to include Iran in the committee has been slammed by UN watchdogs. "As a UN spokesperson against racism, Iran will invert totally the message and mission of the United Nations," Anne Bayefsky, senior editor of the New York-based Eye on the UN, said in a press release. The UN's response?
"Iran is now poised to wrap itself in a UN flag as a lead agent of the next global conference against racism, Durban II," she added, referring to the 2001 UN conference on racism held in Durban, South Africa, which saw unprecedented levels of anti-Zionist rhetoric and calls for Israel's destruction.
A spokesperson for the UN's Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights confirmed to Ynetnews that "Iran is one of 20 States who are members of the bureau of the Preparatory Committee," but added that "Iran does not occupy a leading role.”Huh?
When asked how a state which openly denies the Holocaust could find itself in such a role, the spokesperson said: "The Preparatory Committee is an inter-governmental body, meaning States were chosen freely to sit on the Prep-Com. It is the Member-States who decide."

Your American taxdollars at work! destroying you!
Not only that but they're letting anti-Israel groups set the agenda again. It's all laid out here: http://blog.ngo-monitor.org/
Everybody knows the U.N. is comprised of bottom feeders. This is just more proof if anyone needed it.
Like you I condemn racism, I condemn terrorism, I condemn violence, but unlike you I condemn it unequivocally regardless of who is doing. Arabs have done all of those things, yes, but so has Israel. I do not think that the blood of the victims of Shabla and Shatila, for example, is any less valuable then the blood of the victims of a suicide bombing. Palestinians have engaged in deplorable tactics, there is no doubt, but so have the Zionists. There have been hundreds of acts of terror perpetrated by Zionists in Israel, but even worse then terrorism is occupation. Israel is occupying Palestine. As I have said I do not condone violence, ever, but I am a minority in that view. Almost everyone believes that violence is sometimes acceptable. Resistance to occupation and repression is one of those times. There is no difference between those who seek to liberate Palestine through violence and those who sought to liberate America from British occupation through violence, or those who sought to end apartheid in South Africa through violence. Nelson Mandela has gone as far as to call the Palestinian resistance his "brothers in arms".
Although the Palestinians are often portrayed as a bunch of radical religious zealots bent on imposing Sharia law this is quite clearly not the case. The percentage of Palestinians who want Sharia law is roughly the same as the percentage of Americans who want Biblical law. The only reason Palestinians support Hamas is because they feel they have no alternative, Fatah is corrupt and their nation is being occupied, and their people repressed, but on to Fatah, it is a secular organization. Christian and Muslim Palestinians are resisting the Israeli apartheid side by side, in fact one of the most prominent leaders of the non-violent Palestinian resistance, Ghassan Andoni, is a Christian. Many of the foreign activists protesting the Israeli apartheid are Jewish. The deputy commander of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, for example, has said that the spirit of resistance to oppression now lies with the Palestinian people. Jews and Muslims have coexisted largely peacefully in Palestine for over a thousand years before the creation of Israel.
You seem to have a habit of only being outraged at atrocities by either (a) people who belong to groups that you don not like, or (b) are committed against groups you don’t like. It seems that your judgment is substantially blurred by your prior political views and raw emotions. This has always been a dangerous way of viewing politics. It is this kind of thought that helped lead to things such as the Holocaust and the Rwandan Genocide.
I know you say that we need conservative toughness to protect us from all of the problems in the world, but wouldn’t a lot of those problems not exist if it weren’t for conservative toughness in the first place? I mean, Israeli liberals, American liberals, Palestinian liberals, Saudi liberals, and Iraqi liberals can all get along with each other wonderfully. It seems like it is only the conservatives who are insistent upon killing each other.
Any feedback would be much appreciated. I always enjoy hearing viewpoints other than my own.
The UN has a long way to go before it instigates anything dealing with race. I don't know but I heard they are allowing an anti-Israel display at the UN hq in New York If it's true it's disgraceful.....stay well..
Good thought thanks for sharing.....
