Hanging Out in Iran

More group executions carried out in public. Those Iranians really know how to throw a party. They just love this kinda stuff.

"Iran executes nine more criminals" from the BBC:

Iran has hanged at least nine men convicted for rape, kidnapping and armed robbery, state media reported.

Seven were hanged publicly in two separate locations in the north-eastern city of Mashhad, and two others were executed in south-east Iran.

State television showed the five convicts' bodies hanging from the gallows under a banner saying "Implementing justice = Elevating security".

(The five were left on view before the hangman cut the ropes)

The footage showed thousands of spectators at the execution held back by iron fencing and a police cordon.

Last week, 12 convicts were hanged simultaneously in Tehran's Evin prison.

You guys are SUCH IDIOTS! You think that's barbaric and the ELECTRIC CHAIR which we use in this country isn't?!?!?! At least when you're hanged it's quick and relatively painless compared to the chair. Get a reality check.

They are being hanged because they committed severe crimes like rape. The fact that these kind of atrocious crimes are immediately and severely punished in Iran is a way of discouraging them from happening again....I wish we'd do that here so that we wouldn't have a rape rate of 4 women per second, and let the thugs who rape them have a dandy old time in our luxurious jail system! Now THAT is real justice!

Most US states don't use the Chair anymore, and among the few that do, it's seldom used; and probably will be discontinued soon.

In contrast, the method of hanging used in Iran is among the cruelest; slow strangulation (see the history of hanging as a form of execution on Wikipedia). It's also the most common form of execution in Iran, and is being used increasingly, in larger numbers, with each passing year.

If that were true, you would have a point. However, there are many claims, from multiple sources (and verified by 3rd party groups like Amnesty International) that charges of rape and murder are trumped up as excuses to execute political dissidents.

Also, women and girls as young as 16 who are rape VICTIMS have been hanged for "immorality", while their rapists go free.

A "trial" can be nothing more than a few moments in front of a Mullah, who decides life or death. No defense attorney, no jury. No real justice. Sad but true.
