13 Year Olds Arrested at Birthday Party in Iran
They are being charged with promiscuity, alcohol use, and dressing indecently. I wonder if diapering a baby in public constitutes lewd behavior.
"Iran: 17 teens arrested at a party in latest crackdown" from AKI:
Tehran, 7 August (AKI) - Iran stepped up its moralisation campaign this week with the arrest of 17 teenagers aged between 13 and 17 years of age at a birthday party in Tehran. This is nothing short of insanity.
It is the latest arrest in a controversial campaign ordered by president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and enforced by the supreme leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
The United Nation's children's fund, UNICEF, immediately expressed concern about the arrests of nine males and eight females - all minors - who have been accused of "promiscuity", "alcohol use", and "dressing indecently".
The adolescents, being held at the court's discretion, could be sentenced to three years' jail, a police spokesman said.

this is not surprising. Iran has really stepped up their campaign recently. This is what authoritarian regimes do when they feel pressure. There is definitely growing pressure on Iran, however the reason that it is so hard to bring down such regimes is because they know no limits. Thank you for posting this. If the world knows, that is a start. here is how I saw it

The Iranians have GOT to be ready to leave Islam. Of all the people in the ME the Iranians have at times been the most free so they know all they have lost since the lullahs took over in '79. Can't they see the difference in the level of freedom enjoyed by Christian nations vs. Islamic ones? They should convert en masse.
I think that is an oversimplification. Turkey is also a Muslim nation and they enjoy plenty of freedom. I think it is the current regime that is the real problem. I do however think that it can be brought down, and it can be brought down peacefully. Articles like this contribute however it requires a full grass roots effort of all peace loving people.
o gosh Jay..what next...unicef to the rescue eh..........
because 14 year olds are so responsible?
not!
ours are 16 and nearly 15 and we just left them alone overnight a few weeks ago for the very first time - the nearly 15 year old was at a friend's house.
of course, ours are exceptional and truly believe in the difference between right and wrong behavior.
we were actually hoping the 16 year old would cut loose and have a party!
they do not like being a disappointment to us and vice versa.
While the possible punishment is overly harsh, you seem to be excusing alcohol abuse because the other two "crimes" they were accused of don't mesh with your ideas.
great ..thanks for sharing.....
