Israel Holds Intensive Maneuvers
Israel is not taking any chances. Syria should take note. This from the Jerusalem Post;
The IDF on Thursday held intensive training maneuvers in preparation for a feared Syrian attack on the Golan Heights.
Hundreds of tanks and thousands of soldiers, backed by helicopters and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, massed in the Judean Desert to drill simulations of war. The training exercise focused on Brigade 401 and its utilization of Israel's most advanced tank - the Merkava Mark 4 - against the Syrian advanced Russian-made T-72.
Since the Second Lebanon War, Military Intelligence has claimed that war with Syria is now closer than ever, and the IDF is on heightened alert in the North in preparation for the possibility of a surprise attack.
President Bashar Assad, analysts have said, was empowered by Hizbullah's surprise success while fighting the IDF. The assessment is that he might be motivated to launch hostilities in an effort to retrieve the Golan Heights, either by initiating a surprise attack to capture one or two Israeli communities or by firing long-range ballistic missiles at the home front.
Unfortunately, the complete failure of the IDF Command and the Olmert led government has brought Israel’s level of deterrence to its lowest level ever. Even a rogue Syria has been emboldened to hold maneuvers of their own as well as moving artillery and command centers much closer to the border than they ever dared before.
Syrian President Assad is not acting alone. Assad does not make any major decisions unless receiving the Iranian stamp of approval. Iran, for its part, has shown no hesitancy in fighting proxy wars. Not only would a Iranian backed Syrian foray into Israel quench the Arab desire for hostilities, it would help to further drive a wedge between the US and Europe. Europe, with UN Resolutions in hand, would rationalize Syria’s Golan Heights claims and then try to negotiate a settlement which would be both detrimental to Israel and be viewed in the Arab world as a prize for terror.
Israel would be wise to continue military preparations. This summer looks to be very interesting.

There is an old cliche that goes something like "If you want peace, prepare for war".
That said............If Syria does attack, you can bank on Hezbollah and Hamas also getting into the act, along with Iran. This will get very bloody and very ugly very quickly..........

President Assad would be making a serious mistake. Olmert aside, Hezbollah's great success was merely staying alive. They achieved no military victories but won the political victory. Syria would need to achieve much more and Israel's Air Force would overwhelm them.

I'm not too sure about Iran jumping in as that would surely lead israel to take out their nukes. Iran would rather someone else fight their battle until they are fully nuclear.

True that the IAF would crush Syria. What concerns me is the fact that if heavy missles hit the home front, the damage could be heavy both physically and emotionally.
Well, I'm certainly watching.
Unfortunately, I fear that Olmert will pull his punches again just short of victory. That seems to be his strategy. And it's suicidal.
I'd hope he'd prove me wrong.
Of course, we mustn't forget the Russians' role in the MidEast. Notice that Syria has Russian tanks? No accident- those were most likely given to them for free. Syria is a stooge of Russia as well as of Iran, who, in turn, is a stooge of Russia.
bin Laden's also a stooge of Russia. The MSM has overhyped this guy. He's no great Mujahadeen warrior at all- only been in one battle, not many. And I'm now of the belief that bin Laden has survived with help from the Russians and/or the Chinese- how else could he continue to receive dialysis? Perhaps he's gotten new kidneys from the Chinese. He's a puppet, actually!
FYI, many "mullahs" are actually communists who self-named themselves as such. Omar? Commie with a beard. Warlord Dostum? Former Uzbek Commie general and mercenary for hire. They're not really Muslims. It's part of the cover. They're all pawns of the Russian empire.

Crush Communism and the whole Jihad thing will fizzle out for lack of support and facilitation, ending a long run that began in 1967 with Soviet backing and training. That's the way it's got to work. But, as the Commies have nukes, it'll have to come from the inside of Russia and China (it's already happening in China). The Free World would be wise to infiltrate the Communist networks and work from within to decimate them and provoke the people to overthrow the regime. Spread anti-Commie propaganda and make it go viral.
